Did you know properties in rural areas do not normally have gas supplied to them and are powered by oil. Large oil tanks are situated in external garden areas and are measured using a watchman.
The watchman is an electronic gauge plugged into a mains socket inside the property. It gives an approximate indication to the amount of oil remaining in the tank. So if a full tank capacity is 1000 litres and 50% is showing on the watchman we know there is approximately 500 litres remaining.
Our clerks come across many of these every week but if there isn’t one, then it is back to the old school stick in tank method!
